The best decision I've ever made

(5)·By Mackie R·Drama· Jun 2024
Royal Welsh was a shot in the dark. It looked great on paper when I thought about enrolling, but moving from Mexico to study Acting in Wales during the pandemic seemed like a risky decision (especially since I'd also been accepted in very popular London Drama schools which seemed like a safer choice). But after graduating I can safely say that RWCMD was the best uni I could've gone to, and I cannot recommend it enough.

I firmly believe that RWCMD has the best quality of training there is. Not to say that other schools don't have it as well, but I genuinely don't see how I could've gotten better training or been more prepared for the difficult industry I chose. That being said, RWCMD is not one to chase their students- they will push you as much as you push yourself. Royal Welsh is for hard workers- and if that sounds like you, you will get more than your money's worth.

The excellence along which I was studying was intimidating, but my year group was incredibly close and supportive, and we were very close throughout. The tutors were professional, supportive and kind- always looking after our mental and physical health (which was massively important under the pressure of a conservatoire and the crazy schedules we worked with for three years). But despite that, they were firm and honest, ensuring to get a great balance between mentorship and training excellence which you could really see in the quality of the work of the alumni in third year.

I could honestly praise it all day. I remember my uni days very fondly and will be eternally grateful for how much I grew as both an actor and a person during my time there. It truly changed my life for the better. So if this appeals to you, I definitely encourage you to give it a go- it might just change yours too.

Music, Year 2

Tiring but so worth it! A lot of people tend to shy away from going to university because it's either too much money or too much stress but I don't see it too much like that; I see it as an investment in my future, both from an academical perspective and a social one.

RWCMD is such a lovely place for people to connect—I’ve made the most amazing friends. The course I’m on has some flaws; however, I have enjoyed every second.

The best place for musicians to burn their passion

(4)·By Lio H·Music· Jun 2025
I must say that I love my college and the course I chose. As a musician, thinking about my career is always stressful and I never have an answer to my question “what will I become?”. But my college is providing me with many opportunities while strengthening my skills on the instrument. It has such a nice community and I have met many great musicians, both students and professionals. I personally like the location of my college as well. I wanted to live in a city but not one that’s extremely busy, and Cardiff is a great place. You can find music events pretty much every day and, of course, the college also organizes many fun events. If you love music, especially performing, I can’t recommend this place enough!

Music, Year 2

(4)·By Sophie L·Music· Jul 2021
It was great to meet so many new people from different places who had a lot in common. The first few weeks was such a fun experience and there were so many icebreaker opportunities. As a gated community, the staff are always making sure that we feel safe and secure within the grounds. The living conditions are beyond what I expected when I first arrived and I felt right at home with my new flat mates from day 1. The classrooms are great and are easily accessible for the students to interact with each other and to collaborate. The student union's a great place to visit and catch up with other's, especially when you want to have a low-key evening. The course is always collaborative and creative which is essential for others like myself who are practical based. The lectures are always easy to follow as room is always left for students to voice their ideas. Cardiff is a lovely city - there's always room to breath which is hard in a city environment, but there's always something going on which will keep students busy and entertained.
