You will gain a strong grounding in maths, so that you can understand the basic concepts of physics.<br/><br/>You will study both pure and application-driven mathematics. By the time you finish your degree, you will be able to use maths to solve practical problems. Computers are used extensively in modern maths and we will introduce you to various mathematical software preparing you for industry.<br/><br/>At the same time, youll develop a deep understanding of physics, from astronomical phenomena to quantum mechanics. As the course progresses, youll increase your knowledge in classical physics as well as advancements in modern physics.<br/><br/>Much of what you will learn will relate to research that our staff carry out. This includes topics such as biophysics, advanced materials, photonics, numerical analysis, and applications of maths and physics to challenging problems in biology and medicine.<br/><br/>As we have a high staff-to-student ratio, youll be studying in a friendly and supportive environment. Our approachable lecturers offer drop-in help sessions.<br/><br/>Our Physics society run regular social events for anyone who has a particular interest in physics. They have organised trips to CERN, Munich and Amsterdam as well as the annual Physics Ball. They also offer excellent peer support. You can meet with students from all year groups to help guide you through the more challenging aspects of the course.
