Diet and nutrition significantly affect sport performance. The food and fluid which an athlete drinks before, during and after exercise affects health, body mass and body composition, as well as performance in, and, recovery from exercise.

The aim of this programme is to provide suitable academic training relating on the foundation of biosciences for the study of sport and exercise nutrition (SEN). Subject specific requirement: At least one subject from Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Technology, Maths, Nutrition and Food Science, or Physics. PE or Single Award Life & Health Sciences only acceptable where accompanied by AS level in Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Biology (Grade C or above). Provided the above subject requirement is met you can substitute a combination of alternative qualifications recognised by the University for one of the A level grades.

English & Maths required at National 5 Grade C or Standard Grade 1, 2 or 3. Applicants who have not passed Higher Chemistry will be required to successfully complete the Ulster University Chemistry bridging module before being accepted onto the degree. This is to fulfill the GCSE Chemistry requirement for the degree.

Access to HE Diploma

Only science-based programmes are accepted. Overall profile of at least 60% (120 credits) including 60% in each level 3 module (NI Access Couse)* Overall profile of at least 45 credits at Merit (GB Access Course)* *to include a 20 credit Level 2 Mathematics module, passed at 40% or successful completion of NICATS Mathematics as part of the pre-2021 Access Diploma.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

You must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for admission to a first degree course and hold a GCSE pass in English Language at Grade C/grade 4 or above (or equivalent). Also you must hold a GCSE pass in Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent) and either Double Award Science (grade CC) or Chemistry (grade C) or above (if not studied at AS or A Level). Please note that for purposes of entry to this course the Level 2 Essential / Key Skill in Application of Number is NOT regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths. There may be an opportunity for applicants without GCSE Chemistry or Double Award Science to meet this requirement by completing an online Ulster University Chemistry bridging module in early September.

Scottish Advanced Higher

96 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of five subjects (four of which must be at Higher Level) to include one subject from Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Biology or Home Economics. If you do not pass Maths nor Chemistry at H3, as they are required for prior learning a minimum grade of H6/O4 is required in addition to an H3 in one of the subjects above. The minimum requirement for English is H6/O4. There may be an opportunity for applicants without Chemistry to meet this requirement by completing an online Ulster University chemistry module in early September.
