With experts in applied linguistics and language teaching guiding you, you’ll develop practical skills that you can use in real classrooms and international workplaces. TESOL is a hands‑on area of study, and this course focusses on preparing you for real-world teaching and communication scenarios in your future career.
A standout feature of the degree is the chance to work towards the globally recognised Trinity Cert TESOL qualification, one of only two internationally accepted TESOL teaching certificates - a huge boost for your career. You’ll also spend a year abroad in a French‑speaking country, giving you the opportunity to become more confident, independent and fluent in the language, while experiencing life in another culture.
By the time you graduate, you’ll be equipped with strong language abilities, intercultural awareness and practical teaching experience, opening doors to exciting roles in the UK and around the world.

* Interesting research specialisms: The Film, Languages and Media in Education (FLAME) pioneering research group is dedicated to the development of research and knowledge exchange and is run by academic staff in the school.
