Human Geography and Sociology BA (Hons)

**Human Geography**<br/><br/>Human Geography involves the study of the interrelationships between people, place, and environment, and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations shaping the lives and activities of people, and their interactions with places and nature. It covers many different perspectives and brings them together to create a distinctive way of understanding the world. Human Geography is more allied with the social sciences and humanities, sharing their philosophical approaches and methods.<br/><br/>Our degree investigates human-environment relationships offering you the chance to develop an integrated, enriched understanding of what is taking place on our planet particularly through, for example, the lens of tourism, exploring urban environments, small island settings or applied aspects of natural hazard management. In addition to specialising in human geographical dimensions, you will look at a wide range of different geographical topics and learn a broad range of skills. The overarching aim of our Human Geography degree is to provide students with opportunities to contribute to an environmentally sustainable and socially conscious<br/>future.<br/><br/>Liverpool is a particularly great place to study Human Geography, being an excellent case study of economic, environmental and social regeneration, and having surroundings that include rural and coastal settings.<br/><br/>**Sociology**<br/><br/>Contemporary society is becoming ever more complex, dynamic and challenging, and the need to understand it increasingly important. The Sociology degree at Liverpool Hope University will help you to think critically and constructively about the key questions relating to modern society, exploring crucial topics such as: how is society organised, where does power lie, and who are the winners and losers? What are the key challenges associated with class, poverty, gender, sexuality, race, disability, religion, and climate change in the 21st century, and how do we address these? What is the future of work, and how will this impact society? How do we make sense of society? And how do we generate knowledge that might help us to improve the world in which we live? <br/><br/>In line with Liverpool Hope University’s commitment to social justice, Sociology will help you to understand and critique the ‘common-sense’ assumptions about the world we inhabit. You will examine a wide range of key issues that characterise and confront the modern world, both nationally and globally, and will study the theories and methods that help to explain and understand them.<br/><br/>Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.
