On this BSc (Hons) Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology, accredited by the BPS, you’ll develop clinically relevant skills and knowledge to understand the psychological factors involved in mental and physical health.

Clinical psychology is used to understand, treat or alleviate disorders and disabilities in different age groups, from relationship issues and drug misuse to learning difficulties, body dysmorphia and other neurological problems.

Health psychology focuses on what causes self-destructive behaviour, for example, eating unhealthy diets, avoiding exercise or engaging in unsafe sexual behaviour, and how people react to conditions such as stress, heart disease or cancer.

As well as understanding how things can go wrong, you’ll analyse how situations can be improved through psychological interventions such as counselling and mindfulness, or the science of wellbeing. A wide scope for dissertation topics has led past students to investigate adverse childhood experiences, personality disorders, drinking habits and eating behaviour, to name just a few.

Successful completion of this psychology degree confers eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS and the Graduate Basis for Registration, setting you on the path to becoming a Chartered Psychologist in any of the main psychological professions (clinical, educational, counselling, health, developmental, cognitive neuroscience, applied behaviour analysis).

‘Placement Year’ and International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time. You can find more information about these options on our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch.

If you don’t have the required qualifications for this degree-level course or are looking to re-enter education after time away from study, then a Foundation Year Programme might be the right choice for you.
